1. Flaxseed Bread
This simple recipe for flaxseed bread works best with golden flaxseed. However, you can use brown flaxseed as well.
Sieve 2 and half cups of flaxseed meal in a large bowl.
Add 1 tablespoon baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon salt to the flaxseed meal. Stir thoroughly.
Add 1 cup hot water and 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar to the mixture and mix well.
Knead the dough lightly. The less it is handled, the better.
Bake in an oven preheated to 360 degrees F/180 degrees C for 60 minutes.
Let it cool completely on a wire rack before consuming.
2. Flaxseed Crackers
Take 1 cup flaxseed meal and 1/2 teaspoon salt in a large bowl and combine with 1/2 cup water. Add some herbs and spices for added flavour.
Cover and refrigerate for up to 18 hours.
Transfer the dough onto a large flat surface and roll it out into a thin, even layer. Adjust the thickness as per preference, but don’t roll it too thin, it will make the crackers brittle.
Cut out crackers in your preferred shapes.
Bake at 300 degrees F/150 degrees C for about 40 minutes. Adjust timing according to thickness of the crackers.
Bake until crisp and golden.
3. Banana, Oat And Flaxseed Cookies
Mash 2 ripe bananas in a large bowl. Add 1/2 cup ground flaxseed meal, 1/2 cup sliced almonds, 1/2 rolled oats and 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional). Add a pinch of salt as well. Mix well.
Place the batter on a baking tray in the shape and size of the desired cookies.
Bake in oven preheated to 350 degrees F/180 degrees C for up to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Cool before serving.
4. Flaxseed Raita
Mix 1/2 cup whole flaxseed with preferred amount of curd.
Add a small pinch of salt and a pinch of chaat masala. Mix well and enjoy!
5. Flaxseed Podi (South Indian Style Dry Chutney)
Dry roast 1 cup flaxseed for 2 minutes and set aside.
Dry roast 2-3 kashmiri dry red chillies, 2 teaspoons jeera (cumin) and a pinch of coriander powder for 2 minutes.
Mix all the ingredients with a pinch of salt in a mixer till it is completely powdered. Do not add any water. It is a dry mixture.
Serve mixed with a bit of oil.
6. Flaxseed Smoothie
Chop your preferred amount of strawberries and bananas. Add into a mixer along with a few tablespoons of flaxseed, honey, soy milk and chocolate chips (optional).
Blend thoroughly until smooth.
7. Flaxseed Hummus
Blend 2 cups of chickpeas, 2 tablespoons of golden flaxseed meal (you can use brown), 2 peeled garlic cloves, 4 tablespoons of lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of tahini, 1/3rd cup cold water and a teaspoon of salt in a mixer.
Pause intermittently as you blend to add 1/2 cup of olive oil in small quantities to the mixture.
Mix thoroughly until you reach the right consistency.
Serve chilled and enjoy!
8. Flaxseed, Mushroom And Spinach Salad
Saute 1 cup of chopped mushrooms and chopped 1 large clove of garlic in 1 tablespoon of olive for about 5 minutes or until the mushrooms are cooked.
Take off the gas and mix with 1 cup of fresh, shopped spinach, 1 tablespoon flaxseed and 1 teaspoon chopped coriander.
Prepare dressing with 1 tablespoon each of dijon mustard, lemon juice and olive oil. Add 1/2 tablespoon honey or maple syrup, a pinch of salt and mix well.
Drizzle the dressing over the salad and enjoy!
