Pearl millet is one of the oldest cultivated crops and undoubtedly finds a place among the most important grains in the world. Primarily a cereal crop produced at a large volume in India, it’s more commonly known as Bajra all over the country. The seeds of the grains are small, round and golden yellowish in colour.

Pearl Millet Recipes

1. Pearl Millet Strawberry Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 Bowl Pearl Millet Or Bajra Flour
  • 2 Tablespoons Cocoa Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 4 Tablespoons Honey
  • 1 Tablespoon Roasted Sesame Seeds For Garnish
  • 1 Cup Strawberries For Garnish
  • 1 Cup Raspberries For Garnish

Method

1. First of all, add baking powder in millet flour and mix it twice.

2. Once the batter is ready, bring out your micro-proof silicon mould for the cake.

3. Pour the batter into the mould.

4. Now put in the mould inside a preheated microwave on 180 degrees.

5. Bake it for ten minutes on 180-degree centigrade. You can check the status of the cake with a toothpick.

6. Sprinkle sugar powder on it and garnish with strawberries and raspberries before demoulding the cake.

2. Pearl Millet Energy Balls

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Pearl Millet Flour
  • 1/3 cup Ghee
  • 1/2 Tsp Cardamom Powder
  • 1/4 Cup Organic Jaggery

Method

  • First strain the millet flour with a strainer and melt the ghee.
  • Now add the millet flour in the ghee. Cook for 2 minutes. Refrain from burning it.
  • Now melt the jaggery before switching off the flame.
  • Mix cardamom powder with the flour.
  • Pour the whole thing into a plate and make a small batch.
  • Apply little ghee while shaping them into small rounds.
  • Press the laddu hard so that it can retain its shape once you have put it on the plate.

3. Pearl millet porridge

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup – Pearl Millet (Bajra), Coarsely Grounded
  • 1 Cup – Curd
  • 3 Cups- Water
  • 2-4 tbsp – Ghee
  • As Required Salt
  • As Required Chopped Coriander

Method

1. Take a deep pan.

2. Pour curd and water in it and keep stirring through until there are no more lumps.

3. Now add coarsely grounded pearl millet and mix well. Once mixed, leave the mixture aside for at least two hours. Let it develop a sour taste and the millet pearl to soak as well.

4. After two hours, put the pan in the stove on medium flame, to constantly stir the mixture for 6-7 boils. Make sure no lump is formed during the stirring.

5. Later add salt to taste while stirring. In case the mixture has turned too thick, you may add more buttermilk for proper consistency.

6. Serve it in a bowl. Add a generous amount of ghee and sprinkle some sugar too. Some chopped coriander leaves will add flavour too.
