Methi rice recipe – The ingredients required
The ideal kind of methi rice recipe involves minimal time spent on preparing the dish, a simple set of instructions and steps to follow and most importantly it must be easy enough to make.
So let’s get right to it then!
For your methi rice you would need:
Uncooked rice – 1 cup
Oil – 1 tbsp
Garlic cloves – 2 (finely chopped)
Cumin seeds – ½ a teaspoon
Green chillies – 2 (slit)
Frozen/pre-boiled green peas – ½ cup
Fresh methi leaves – ¼ cup
Garam masala – ¼ or ½ a teaspoon
Turmeric – ⅛ of a teaspoon
Salt as required
Lemon juice – 1 to 2 tbsp
This version of the methi rice recipe must be made over a stovetop.
Step 1: Give the rice a quick rinse and leave it to soak for about 20 minutes. Pour two cups of water into a deep dish/vessel and bring it to a boil. You can then add the rice and cover the vessel with a lid. Make sure you don’t cook the rice completely so that it turns soft and mushy. Cook it only to a grainy consistency.
Step 2: In a heated saucepan, pour in the oil and add the cumin seeds, the green chillies and the garlic cloves.
Step 3: Make sure you saute it all until you feel the rawness leave the mixture. You can then add the green peas and the methi leaves. Stir and saute the resulting blend for about 4 minutes or so. Ensure that the fenugreek leaves are sufficiently cooked.
Step 4: Now you can add the garam masala powder, the turmeric powder and stir it all well. Turn the flames off.
Step 5: Take the rice that should have cooled off by now and add it to the mixture. Add a sprinkle of salt (according to your taste), the lemon juice and stir it all together. Serve with raita or vegetable salad.
