Turmeric, The Ayurvedic Spice

Turmeric is a spice native to Indian subcontinent that is widely used across the globe for a wide range of culinary, medicinal, therapeutic and industrial applications. Turmeric has been used in India as a medicine for thousands of years. Ayurveda ascribes a lot of importance to turmeric for fighting skin related issues, mood alleviation and many other medical problems.

The primary bioactive compound of turmeric is curcumin which is scientifically proven to have antioxidant, anti inflammatory, antimicrobial properties. Due to these properties it has a wide range of applications in skin care, healing wounds, and promoting overall well being.

In fact turmeric has been found to be effective in preventing and treating cancer as well. The anticancer potential of curcumin stems from its ability to suppress proliferation of a wide variety of tumour cells. The best part about turmeric is that it is not toxic even at high doses.

Honey, The Nourishing Sweetener

The medicinal importance of honey has been documented in the world’s oldest medical literature, and since ancient times it has been an intrinsic part of Ayurvedic treatment as well. It has been known to possess antimicrobial property as well as wound-healing activity.

The healing property of honey is due to the fact that it offers antibacterial activity, maintains a moist wound condition, and its high viscosity helps to provide a protective barrier to prevent infection. Its immunomodulatory property is relevant to wound repair too.
