WE CAN’T BE PIGGING IT OUT ON GMOs!
What do you think we have in common with pigs? Interestingly, our digestive systems. Believe pigs have digestive system similar to ours and that is where this story begins… Dr Judy Carman of Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia, has done a study in real-time conditions, not in a laboratory where pigs were fed on feed containing genetically modified crops. What did Dr Judy Carman and his team find?
GM-fed females had on an average a 25% heavier uterus than non-GM-fed females – a possible indicator of disease that requires further investigation.
Also the level of severe inflammation in stomachs was markedly higher in pigs fed on the GM diet. Male pigs were more strongly affected.
“These adverse effects when we fed the animals a mixture of crops containing three GM genes and the GM proteins that these genes produce.”
Endnote: The research was conducted in the USA by collaborating investigators from two continents and published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Organic Systems. The pigs were slaughtered at the usual slaughter age of over five months, after eating the diets for their entire commercial lifespan. The full paper is available here: http://gmojudycarman.org
FLAX-TINY AND MIGHTY
It is not a grain but has all the vitamin and nutrient profile similar to a grain. That’s the story of flax. You can eat flax seeds raw or roasted. You could add it to your rotis, breakfast cereals, yogurt, shakes and even sprinkle some on the cheeses and butter.
And some quick tips :
Water and flax are good companions. Drink plenty of water. The soluble fiber in flax needs you to have a lot of water otherwise it may affect your bowel movements. High fiber also means you start slowly. Gradually increase the intake.
HAVE YOU TRIED COLD PRESSED OILS?
Now what are these and how are they different? We cite the British Association of Cold Pressed Oil Producers and here is what they say – Cold pressing is a traditional and natural way to produce oil.
Seed oils are extracted without the use of chemicals or solvents at temperatures below 40 degrees centigrade which ensures that the full essence and character of the oil is preserved. This careful process means that all the natural goodness within the seeds is preserved. Processing at low temperatures helps to produce low peroxide values (PV) and providing the oil is stored correctly will achieve an extremely good shelf life, ideally suited for the nutritional market. Once the oil has settled, it is filtered to guarantee its purity, and then bottled. It is as simple as that – no heating, no refining – just pure, healthy oil.
Exceptional Health Benefits – Vit E and Omega 3 & 6. Nearly all cold pressed oils are a natural source of Vitamin E, an important antioxidant, beneficial to general well-being. Most oils also contain the Essential Fatty Acids commonly known as Omega 3 and 6. These products, which are just cold pressed and filtered, result in oils that are naturally free from trans fats and low in saturated fat, totally in line with advice to reduce both saturates and trans fats from the diet.
